How to Become a CNA in Florida: Step by Step
Step 1. Take our CNA Exam Express Prep Class
Our class prepares you for both the written exam and the clinical skills portion of the test. You’ll practice skills from the official checklist and learn what to expect on exam day.
After completing this class, most students feel ready to challenge the CNA exam.
Step 2. Complete Your Level II Background Screening
Florida requires a Level II fingerprint-based background check before certification.
To learn more about screening requirements, refer to the Florida CNA Candidate Information Bulletin.
Step 3. Submit Your Florida CNA Exam Application
Apply directly through Prometric. You'll submit your application, pay your testing fee, and choose your preferred testing site.

Step 4. Take the Written Knowledge Exam
The written test covers topics such as infection control, safety, basic nursing skills, resident rights, and communication.

Step 5. Take the Clinical Skills Exam
You will perform several hands-on skills in front of an evaluator. Every exam begins with proper hand hygiene, followed by three randomly assigned skills from the Prometric Clinical Skills Checklist.
Step 6. View Your Exam Results
Prometric posts your exam results online, usually within a few days.

Step 7. Get Added to the Florida CNA Registry
Once you pass both exams and your background check is approved, your name is added to the Florida CNA Registry. At that point, you are officially a Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Florida.

You are allowed to challenge the exam without completing a full 120 hour CNA program. Our CNA Exam Express Prep class gives you the focused skills practice and written review needed to feel confident before scheduling your exam.

It helps you build the hands-on skills and written knowledge needed to feel confident when you challenge the Florida state CNA exam through Prometric. However, it is not the state certification exam and does not replace any requirements set by the Florida Board of Nursing.
